Nonku Ntshona, Principal Partner of Nonku Ntshona & Associates Quantity Surveyors LTD of Johannesburg, South Africa is one of the stars of Destiny Magazine’s “40 Under 40” list of top women entrepreneurs. Her woman-owned company (which also employs majority women collaborators) is a rare breed in a predominantly male industry.
Their mission and vision are testament to their commitment to ethical service provision, woman empowerment and comprehensive quantity surveying: “The vision of NNAQS is to become the most sought after and distinguished quantity surveying firm in South Africa, while its mission is to be a catalyst for change and enable a greater role for previously disadvantaged societies, concentrating on increased participation of women in the construction industry.”
Ms. Ntshona, an IWEC Awardee from 2013, started her career with Rousseau Probert Elliot Quantity Surveyors in Port Elizabeth. She then joined Bham Tayob Khan Matunda in Johannesburg, after which she joined Turner and Townsend as a Quantity Surveyor. After that, she established her own firm in Johannesburg. Her level of project experience includes infrastructure development in the mining industry, roll-out projects in the automotive sector, commercial and corporate developments, mixed use and housing developments, among others. Her international experience includes leading and managing office and mixed use development projects in the Republic of Tanzania and Zambia.
From the advocacy standpoint, Ms. Ntshona, a member of the Cape Chamber of Commerce, is also affiliated with the Business Women’s Association of South Africa (BWA). She is an executive board member of the Women Property Network (WPN) and a committee member of the South African Property Owner’s Association (SAPOA) Property Development Program.
Among her many accolades are the Young Black Entrepreneur of the Year Metropolitan Oliver Award in 2010 and the IWEC Award in 2013.
