FLO President’s Message:
“Dear Friends,
It is with great pride and a lot of humility that I don the mantle of the 34th President of Ficci Ladies Organisation.
As the largest women’s business chamber in the country, with over 33 years of experience, FLO has been instrumental in working towards the economic empowerment of women and promoting entrepreneurship through workshops, conferences, trainings and capacity building programs.
Educating and empowering women is the catalyst for rapid socio-economic growth of the country. With India entering into its next phase of growth, it is expected to add 110 million people to its workforce in the next ten years’, including youth and women. According to a study conducted by McKinsey Global Institute in 2015, if India can increase women’s labor force participation by 10 percentage points (68 million more women) by 2025, India could increase its GDP by 16%.
This, however is an uphill task if we go by the current statistics of participation of Indian women in its workforce. On the World Economic Forum’s Gender Gap Index, the ranking of Indian women in economic empowerment is 0.3, where 1.0 means equality.
Keeping these trends into consideration, FLO will continue to work towards the inclusion of more women in the workforce through skilling initiatives in the fields of telecom, transport and e-commerce, initiatives for grassroots women, providing support to women entrepreneurs’ through Swayam which is our business consultancy cell, conducting directorship training and helping place women on Corporate Boards through the FLO Women Directors program. We will also expand and strengthen our initiatives to compliment Government programs like Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and Make in India.
We intend to work towards a more inclusive future and hope that our efforts will lead to effective and informed policy solutions that will empower women, make a positive impact and change many lives.”
Vasvi Bharatram, President
