Africa is home to more women entrepreneurs than any other region in the world, a Global Entrepreneurship Monitoring report has revealed.
According to the report, the continent accounted for 18 per cent of the global women entrepreneurs in 2016/17.
The report said Latin America and the Caribbean had the second highest number at 17 per cent of all the women entrepreneurs in the world aged between 18-64.
North America, East and South Asia and Pacific and the Middle East accounted for 12, 11 and 8 per cent respectively.
Europe and Central Asia had the lowest percentage of women entrepreneurs at 8 per cent, the report suggested.
However, despite the huge steps, women are still faced with a number of obstacles in the entrepreneurial modern world.
Key among them is access to funding, lack of role models, fear of success and the expectation to succeed at everything.
Kenya boasts of several top women entrepreneurs who have outclassed their male countersparts in various sectors.
They include Keroche Breweries CEO Tabitha Karanja, Kenya Women Holdings founder Dr Jennifer Riria and Michelle Ntalami, founder of Marini Naturals.
