At this time last year, we sat squarely in the middle of the Great Reshuffle; employees globally changed jobs at historically high rates as they rethought how, why, and where they worked.

Fast-forward to today and the situation looks very different. Hiring has slowed and new workforce norms have rendered past playbooks ineffective. Macroeconomic uncertainty has business leaders proceeding with caution as they enter a new year.

So, what steps can leaders take to best navigate this uncertainty? According to research and input provided by LinkedIn execs, three strategies will help leaders successfully manage the challenges that lie ahead. 

1. Make adaptability a core skill

While leaders may be tempted to put their heads down and stick to what they’ve always done, LinkedIn recommends prioritizing an adaptive leadership approach. The murky outlook for 2023 means that there will be a greater need for transparency with employees about the realities ahead, clear articulation of the short-term business priorities, and continuous iteration to operate as efficiently as possible. Communication, problem-solving, and transparency are the top skills C-suite leaders will need to effectively manage their businesses during this period, according to new YouGov research, which surveyed nearly 3,000 C-level executives from organizations with 1,000-plus employees across the globe.*

As teams look for more guidance on the best step forward, leaders will need to make themselves available, investing more time in the day-to-day business operations to identify moments to pivot and adjust. Real-time data will be critical to making timely, informed decisions.
